You are here: Home / Blog / Spotlight on a staff member – Ali Oates
December 21, 2021 by Finley Regional Care

How long have you worked at Finley?

Six days.

What interested you about working in Aged Care?

Learning about life from our residents.

What is your role at Finley Regional Care? What does it involve?

Wellness, leisure and lifestyle team member. I work in a team to engage the residents with fun activities to help support their emotional wellbeing.

What are your qualifications?

I have a recognised certificate and experience in entertainment, music and song writing.

Also, a Certificate IV in Individual Support-Aged Care. I am currently studying a Diploma in Art Therapy. I have a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy, experience in developing programs for self-esteem using performing arts, and hands-on experience in lifestyle and care roles at both public and private aged care facilities in regional Victoria.

What do you like most about working here?

Finley Regional Care is the most amazing place, the staff are so caring with our residents and with each other.

If you had to describe Finley Regional Care in four words, what would you say?

No other can beat.

What has exceeded your expectations or surprised you the most since coming here?

Finley Regional Care is a real home.

Tell us one thing about you people might not know.

I don’t eat anything purple even if chocolate is involved.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Art, walking, gardening, music and cooking. Most importantly, spending time with my family.

What is your favourite quote or saying?

Smile, it costs nothing but can enrich a life.

What three traits define you?

Honest, old school, fun and happiness.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

I am a fictional character in my own mind on days, that movies are yet to discover.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Glass blowing.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Tell Wyatt (not the kids straight away), then tell my Mum and sit quietly on the money until my feet hit the ground.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Hopefully in five years’ time I will still be working at Finley Regional Care.

Favourite movie?

The Day after Tomorrow.

Are you messy or organised?

I am both organised and messy.

Best vacation you’ve been on?

The one in my head I keep dreaming of.

Choose your Mr Men/Little Miss, to describe your work personality?

Miss Naughty.

Do you have an office nickname? What is it?

I do not have one that I know of, but I know my hubby does; isn’t that right Fiona? J

Do you recall any embarrassing moment at work?

I haven’t been at FRC long enough for an embarrassing moment, but get your cameras ready 😛

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

A butterfly, as nobody would expect an evil butterfly and they don’t live long anyway so I can get away with being naughty.

If you were stuck on death row, what would your last meal be?

Family roast pork or lamb.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

Food, shelter and Wyatt (as he can catch the fish).

If you were to write a self-help book, what would the topic be?

Stop enabling.

If your house was burning down, what is the one non-living thing you would save?

My hubby’s fishing gear.

My son’s collectable cars.

My daughter’s favourite toys.

Least favourite food?

Brains.

Motto or personal mantra?

Be kind.

Top two life highlights?

My hubby and kids, my family of eight siblings and my wonderful parents.
