Dear Residents, Families, Advocates,
Ensuring the person you are supporting at this aged care facility has correct enrolment details is important to ensure they are able to vote easily in upcoming elections. The simplest way to update enrolment details is online at Update my details on the electoral roll. For federal elections, there is no age limit for voting so everyone must continue to vote.
If you would prefer to use a paper form, you can download and print it from the AEC website. Please ensure you print the form for the state our facility is in. You could also pick up a paper form at an AEC office or call the AEC and they can send you one.
When helping someone to update their enrolment details you will need to have their name, date of birth and one of the following with you:
- Medicare Card details
- Australian driver’s licence number
- Australian Passport number
- Australian citizenship number
If these are not available, someone who is currently enrolled can confirm their identity and these details can be entered into the form.
If you believe that the person you are supporting can no longer understand the significance and nature of voting, watch this short video on the process. The Objection claim that an elector should not be enrolled form will need to be completed as it must be completed with a medical practitioner.
Further information about enrolment can be found on the Australian Electoral Commission’s website People living in residential aged care – Australian Electoral Commission (aec.gov.au).
