Webinar 3: Getting your care needs assessed for aged care services

Navigating aged care can be tricky. People are often unaware of how to begin their aged care journey, and finding information on how to access, change and update services is not always easy.
The Navigating the Aged Care System webinar series will provide you with practical information on how to access Australian Government subsidised aged care services, and help you find the information you need to make informed decisions. The webinars are intended to be conversational and interactive with panellists taking questions throughout.
Webinar 3, Part 1 (2:00pm-2:30pm AEST) – Overview of aged care needs assessments
Joining OPAN educator, Maree Montgomery, on the panel will be an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) representative. Together they will discuss:
- What’s involved in an assessment
- Where assessments take place and the importance of having someone with you
- Who undertakes the assessment: ACAT or Regional Assessment Service (RAS)
- Development of support plans
- Notification of assessment outcome
HALF HOUR BREAK (2:30pm-3:00pm AEST)
Webinar 3, Part 2 (3:00pm-3:30pm AEST) – Understanding the two types of assessments: home support and comprehensive
Maree and the ACAT assessor will explore the two assessments in detail:
- Home Support Assessment for basic support in the home conducted by RAS
- Comprehensive Assessment for complex care in the home or care in an aged care home conducted by ACAT
Special edition webinar: Navigating Aged Care in NT
Friday 9 August 2019 2:00pm-2:30pm ACST (2:30pm-3:00pm AEST)
Joining OPAN Educator, Maree Montgomery, on the panel will be a representative from the Darwin LGBTI Hub and Council on the Ageing (COTA) NT. Together they will explore:
- The unique needs and challenges for older people in the NT in navigating aged care, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and LGBTI
- Innovative solutions to address these issues
- Support needed
