Spotlight on a staff member

You are here: Home / Blog / Spotlight on a staff member
September 29, 2022 by Finley Regional Care

Every so often we’ll have an in-depth chat with one of our staff members, so you can get to know them a little better. This month we get to know Registered Nurse, Lauren Almond.

How long have you worked at Finley Regional Care?

Two months and loving it.

What interested you about working in Aged Care?

Making a difference to someone’s life, listening to residents’ life stories and learning each day.

What are your qualifications?

Registered Nurse.

What do you like most about working here?

So far, the teamwork! The staff have been very accommodating across the board. I have enjoyed getting to know the residents and learning about their lives.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I spend time helping on my partner’s farm, feeding cows, water skiing or walking my dogs, Chip and Lola.

What three traits define you?

Easy-going, caring, reliable.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Invest, and take my dad on a holiday.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Working at FRC, with a growing family, hopefully.

Favourite movie?

Man on Fire – Denzel Washington.

Are you messy or organised?

Organised – I can’t focus in mess.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

Tough one … I have been told years ago I look like Katie Holmes? I don’t see it, but maybe her.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?

Thai green curry, KFC chips on the side with lots of chocolate for dessert.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

Sam (partner), Sully (pet lamb) and chocolate.

If you were to write a self-help book, what would the topic be?

Self-confidence.

If your house was burning down, what is the one non-living thing you would save?

My nan’s slow cooker, or any chocolate in the fridge.

Least favourite food?

Sardines – yuck!

What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?

Working as a team is important, and no question is too silly.

What are your three most overused words/phrases?

“Stop it, Chip”, “Down, Chip” and “Chip, no!” (Chip is our very naughty dog).

What did you want to be when growing up?

A marine biologist or forensic scientist.

What is the first concert you attended?

Hmmm … Kasey Chambers?

What is your biggest pet peeve?

People chewing … Misophonia, haha.

What is your favourite childhood memory?

Camping on the river with family.

What is your favourite number and why?

23 Red! I once won on roulette.

What is your favourite sport?

Tennis – to watch and play.

What is your greatest fear?

Flying!

What one food do you wish had zero calories?

Chocolate or wine!

What phobias do you have?

Flying!! Although I love travel.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Be kind to yourself and Dad’s advice is always (usually) right.

Where is your favourite place to eat?

Last Straw (Thai) or anything my partner cooks.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?

Anywhere in South East Asia – Thailand/Vietnam. I love the cuisine.

Which one would you want most – flying cars, robot housekeepers, or moon cities?

Robot Housekeepers!

You’re happiest when?

I am on the farm with a fire, glass of red and friends.
